The family tree diagram on this page shows the eight earliest generations
of Nieland ancestors that we have identified. The generation numbers shown
at the left of each level are also used elsewhere in this website to help you
keep track of the generations.

Note 1: The Earliest Nieland Ancestor is probably Gerhard Nilandt, born about 1615 in
Gemen, near Borken, Westphalia. We do not yet have definitive proof that he was the father
of Berndt Nieland (1645).

Note 2: Berndt Nieland's (1645) first wife is called by several different names in the various
church records. These include Anna im Porte, Anna Forck, Anna im Wall and Anna von de Walle.
We believe all are the same person.

Note 3: The original church records typically listed the Latin spelling of forenames. In this chart
we list the modern German and American spellings of the names. Spelling of an individual's
surname often varied from record to record.
