Michael J. Culligan 1960-2005 The Carroll Daily Times Herald, Carroll, Iowa, May 18, 2005 Mass of the Christian burial for Michael J. Culligan of Carroll will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Carroll. Mr. Culligan, 46, formerly of Emmetsburg, died of complications from cancer Tuesday, May 17, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. The Rev. James McCormick will preside at the Mass. Lector will be Howard Hubbell. Gift bearers will be Susie Culligan, Brad Burke and Erin Nutt. Eucharistic ministers will be Marge Wolterman and Ken Lang. Casket bearers will be Ken Knutsen, Gene Grade, Kevin Hospelhorn, Mike Ferneding, Wayne Bruening and John Wolterman. Honorary casket bearer will be Mr. Culligan's son, Sean Culligan: Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m., a rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and Holy Spirit parish will hold a wake at 7 p.m. Friday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Visitation will continue at 8 a.m. Saturday at the church. A son of Donald Sr. and Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Culligan, he was born Aug. 23, 1958, at Oelwein. The family moved to Emmetsburg in 1968 and Mr. Culligan attended Emmetsburg Catholic School and graduated from Emmetsburg Community High School in 1977. He then attended Western Iowa Technical School in Sioux City. He and Linda Wolterman were married Sept. 25, 1982, at Holy Spirit Church and made their home in Carroll. Mr. Culligan was an over-the-road truck driver for Feed Fortifiers of Manson and Garst Seed Co. of Carroll until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, camping, bowling, farm work, fishing, attending the St. Patrick's Day Celebration in Emmetsburg and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Linda Culligan, of Carroll; three children: Sarah, Amanda and Sean Culligan all at home; his mother, Liz Culligan, of Emmetsburg; three sisters: Linda Hubbell and her husband, Howard, of Guttenberg, Mary Burke and her husband, Tim, of Storm Lake and Jayne Lang and her husband, Ken, of Emmetsburg; a brother, Donald Culligan Jr., and his wife, Kim, of Marshall, Minn.; and sisters and. brothers-in-law: Marge Wolterman of Carroll, Debra and David Loeschen of Denison, Cindi and Kevin Cregeen of Creston, Pat and Bert Madden of Carroll, James Wolterman of Glidden, Dale "Wally" and Tina Wolterman of Carroll, Gary and Lisa Wolterman of Carroll, John and Dee Wolterman of Carroll, Larry and Marilou Wolterman of Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska, and Mike Wolterman and fiancé Bonnie Limgoes of Lake City. Mr. Culligan was preceded in death by his father and his parents-in-law: Wilbur and Helen Wolterman.
