John Hermann Pappe Pledges to Uphold the Law

We know that John Hermann Pappe operated a bakery in Newton Kansas. But this clipping indicates that by 1883 he may have also been engaged in the saloon business. Apparently he didn't follow through on his pledge to the city of Newton, because in 1884 he was fined and jailed for "selling liquor contrary to law." See also John Hermann Pappe and the Law.
