Remembering R. Pappe

The Kingfisher Free Press 60th Anniversary Edition, Kingfisher, Oklahoma, April 18, 1949

Pappe Was Pioneer Businessman Here

R. Pappe became a resident of Kingfisher on the day of the opening, April 22, 1889 and he and his wife continued to reside here for the remainder of their lives. Their children and grandchildren are now active in the business life of the community.

Soon after arriving here, Pappe opened a bakery and restaurant, which he operated for 10 years, then selling out and engaging in the real estate and loan business. He became a large landowner, and an issue of The Times published in 1901 stated that he was the owner of 1,100 acres at that time and was growing 400 acres of wheat. He helped a large number of German settlers to find locations in the new country.

During his lifetime, he acquired and improved several business buildings in the city which still bear his name.
