1923 Postcard
To Arno Curt Pappe from his sister in Germany, Amalie Gertrude "Trudel" (Pappe) Ulrich
This card was sent to Arno Pappe (1893-1948) by his sister Gertrude "Trudel" (Pappe) Ulrich (1891-?). In the card she mentions their mother, Auguste Pappe (1857-1928), who immigrated to America in 1921 and lived for some time with Arno and his family. Arno worked as a baker for Fred Harvey, owner of a very large restaurant chain in the southwest. He moved frequently, working in Harvey House restaurants and hotels in several different states; hence Trudel's confusion over his address.
The date of the card was estimated based on the age of Gertrude's youngest son, who appears to be about 3 years old in the photo.

It’s hard for her [Mother] and I’m so glad that it’s going well. Many thanks for your last card; I’ve already thanked you for the letter. I am always unclear about your address; let me know whether I should write to “Wyandotte” [Kansas] or to “Dodge City.” Write me with the complete address. We’re staying here for a while, the residence suits us. Write again soon, but everything about Mama, she is so happy. On August 25 she had a birthday. Congratulate her belatedly. In March without fail is our anniversary. Willy wants to make me wait (?). Only the best wishes,
your Trudel
