Richard Pappe Sr. was the youngest son of Gottfried Wilhelm Pappe and Johanna Catharina Heinemann. He was born in Stotternheim, Germany and emigrated to America in 1882 at the age of 22. His wife, Louise Kornrumpf Pappe, from the village of Gross Lengden, near Göttingen, arrived with him. At least two of Richard Pappe's four brothers also emigrated to America -- Albert Ludwig and Johann Hermann (aka John H.) Pappe. Richard and Louise lived briefly in Tazewell, IL and then Pratt Kansas. In 1889 they filed a homestead claim in the opening of the Oklahoma Territory and settled in Kingfisher.. They were the parents of at least eleven children. Five of which survived to adulthood.
