Richard Pappe's Saloon in Kingfisher, OK - August 1901 This is probably Richard Pappe Sr. saloon on North Main Street which was two doors south of where the Kingfisher Times is situated today. The calendar on the wall at the right is opened to August 1901. A building has existed at this site from the the early days of Kingfisher. In the 1894 Sanborn maps, it is shown as a confectionery and ice cream parlor. At that time it was a single storey building. Richard paid $1600 for the property in 1898. (The legal descripion was: West 80 feet fo Lot 22 Block 7.) In 1899 he applied for a liquor license and subsequently opened a saloon there.

Richard is the man in the middle of the room in a white shirt and dark pants, holding up a glass — perhaps in a toast. The young man at the far end of the bar appears to be Richard's son, Albert Pappe. In 1901 Richard was 41 and Albert was 18.
