Joanna Margaretha Nieland was baptized 24 September 1772 at Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. There are records of two children born to Anna Margarethe Nieland and Herman Arning in the church books. Godparents for these children are Joannes Daniel Nieland and Joannes Bernard Nieland. These could be Joanna's father and brother. We believe Johanna Margaretha Nieland married Herman Arning. Her death date has not yet been found.

1) Elisabeth, baptized 15 July 1794 in Südlohn, (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Daniel Nieland and Elis. Tarcken. This is the earliest Nieland record found in the St. Vitus records so far.
2) Maria Gertrude, baptized ?4 August 1796 in Südlohn, Westphalia. Godparents are Jo. Bern. Nieland and Maria Gert. Berger.
3) Joannes Hermann Josephus Arning, baptized April 5, 1801 in Borken (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Josephus Theben and Elisabetha Kreming.
4) Bernardus Antonius Arning, baptized January 13, 1804 in Borken (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Wilhelm Anton Wintery and Christina Forck. This is likely Christina Forck (c1766 - 1833) who was married to his uncle, Joannes Bernard Nieland (1766 - 1840).
5) Maria Antonetta Arning, baptized October 4, 1806, in Borken (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Joanna Maria Bischop and Joseph Anton Thonhaugen.
6) Joannes Wilhelm Arning, baptized May 26, 1809, in Borken, (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Joannes Lüeck and Gertrudis Neuhaus.
7) Johannes Bernardus Arning, baptized February 20, 1812, in Borken, (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Godparents were Gerhard Heinrich Däring and Magdalena Storcks. This is likely Gerhardus Henricus Däring (1764 - ?) husband of his aunt, Joanna Aleida Nieland (1781 - ?).
