Biography

Joanna Margarethe Nieland (?Egging) (c. 1723/4-?)
Generation 4

A daughter of Johann Daniel Nieland (1680), granddaughter of Berndt Nilandt (c.1645), great granddaughter of the Earliest Nieland

Two children were baptized Joanna Margarethe Nieland, one in 1723 and a second on 23 July 1724. This would usually indicate that the older daughter died and a second was given the same name, but no death record has yet been found in that early time. There is a record of a marriage between Joanna Margaretha Nieland and Joannes Bernard Egging on 2 February 1747 at Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. No ages or parents names are given, but the bride is believed to be the daughter of Johannes Danielis Nieland. Witnesses are listed as Joes. Bern. Osfing and Fratres Lrons. No death record has been found for either daughter named Joanna Margarethe.

Joannes Bernard Egging (c. 1722-1759)
Generation 4

The husband of Joanna Margarethe Nieland (1723/4-1759)

The birth date for Joannes Bernard Egging has not yet been found. The name is spelled either Egging or Egginck in the church record books. There is a record of the burial of Bernardus Henricus Egging on 6 September 1759. Since the last child of the couple was born in 1758, we assume this was the husband of Joanna Margarethe.

In Das Bürgerbuch von Bemen 1693-1818, a book which transcribes early records from Gemen, Berendt Egging pays a fee of 2 "Reischsthaler" to become a citizen of Gemen in 1747, the year of his marriage to Joanna Margarethe Nieland.

The children of Joannes Bernard Egginck/Egging and Joanna Margarethe Nieland, all baptized in Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia, Prussia, are the following:

1) Joanna Catherina, baptized 20 July 1755, godparents were Joanna Egging and Joannes Egging. She died 20 April 1759 at Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia.
2) Margaretha Gertrudis, baptized 12 March 1758, godparents were Joannes Hummers and Gertrudis Egging.

We believe Joannes Bernard Egging died and was buried on 6 September 1759.
