Biography

Joannes Bernard Nieland (1766-1840)
Generation 6

The son of Joannes Daniel Nieland and Joanna Gesina Göring (Joannes Daniel, Joannes Bernardus, Johann Daniel, Berndt Nilandt, Earliest Nieland)

Joannes Bernard Nieland was baptized on 2 July 1766 at Gemen (Kries-Borken), Westphalia. He married Catherine Elisabeth Fork on 23 April 1788 in Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. No children have been found from this marriage.

In Das Bürgerbuch von Bemen 1693-1818, a book which transcribes early records from Gemen, Johann Bernhard Nieland is listed in June of 1799, perhaps with his first appointment as "Vorsteher" or provost. He appears again in 1800 as a "Forster". In 1802 he is again listed, this time as "Stadtrendmeister". This is likely the revenue collector, who may have collected tax from citizens or rents from peasant farmers. On 26 April 1803, 16 August 1806, 11 April 1807 and 28 July 1807, he is listed as "Herr" Bernard Nieland, "Bürgermeister" or mayor.

He appears to have died on 12 April 1840 at Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia, Prussia, at age 75 years. His age is listed as 73 in the record.
