Biography

Johann Daniel Nieland/Nielandt (1680-1757)
Generation 3

Son of Berndt Nilandt (circa 1645), grandson of the Earliest Nieland

Johann Daniel Nieland was born 27 October 1680 in Gemen, (Kreis Borken), Westphalia. He married Joanna Enning 26 May 1712 in Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia. Gemen is about 5 km. from present day Ramsdorf, Germany. Witnesses to the marriage are Maximilius and Theodores Nielandt. Both the "Nieland" and "Nielandt" spelling are used in the records, often on the same page.

There are several other Nieland names in the early records that may be siblings, cousins or relatives. They include:
1) Joannes Theodorus Nieland/Nielandt, witness to the marriage of Joannes Danielis Nieland and Joanna Enning/Enninck on 26 May 1712, also in Gemen. He married Elisabeth Buninck 25 March 1727 in Gemen. Witnesses to this marriage were Joannes Krentler, Joes Henricus Buninck, Isabella Brockherde and Charlotta Weingerbin.
2) Metta Nieland, godmother to Joannes Bernardus Nieland, baptized 8 March 1713 in Gemen.
3) Margaretha Nielandt, godmother to Joanna Margarethe Nieland, born 25 July 1723 in Gemen.

For the women, there is always the chance that they were the same person, just called by a different part of the name, i.e. Elisabetha and Margaretha might both be one Elisabetha Margaretha Neiland. There is no complete information in the records.

Johann Daniel Nieland died 22 August 1757 in Gemen (Kreis-Borken), Westphalia.
