Joseph Anthony Boes was born on 20 August 1884 at Sac County, Iowa. He married Appolonia Barbara Walz on January 28, 1913 at St. Bernard church in Breda, Carroll County, Iowa.

With him are his wife "Apolline" (30), and children Edna (6), Ermina (5), Johanna (3 11/12), Alvina (2 5/12) and Cyril (1 11/12). Also living with them is Anna Walz, mother-in-law (56) a widowed German immigrant who arrived in 1888 and is naturalized.

He appeared on the Federal census of 1930 at Carroll County, Iowa. Joseph (45) is enumerated in Wheatland Township on a farm he owns. With him are his wife Appolonia (40), and children Edna (16), Ermina (15), Johanna (14), Alvina (12) and Cyril (11), Vincent (10), Hilda (8), Rufus (5) and Annabelle (3). Also living with them is Anna Welz, mother-in-law (67) a widowed German immigrant who arrived in 1888 and an alien. They have a radio.

Joseph died on 26 May 1959 at age 74 at Breda, Carroll, Iowa. He was buried at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, Breda, Carroll County, Iowa.
