He was widowed in 1930. He married Rose Hoffman, daughter of Frank Hoffman, on 18 February 1941 at Holy Angles Catholic Church, Roselle, Carroll, Iowa. He lived near Breda, Carroll County, Iowa. He was also known as Will.

The first wife of William D. Nieland (1888-1975)

Catherine Grote, daughter of Herman Grote and Anna Rust, was born on 25 October 1889 at Carroll, Iowa. She was born on a farm southwest of Breda.

The children of William D. Nieland and Catherine Grote were the following:

1) Andrew Henry, born 9 November 1913 at Carroll, Iowa. He died on 30 May 2002 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa at age 88. He was buried at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Arcadia, Carroll County, Iowa.
2) Walter, born 18 April 1916 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa. He died on 28 November 1997 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa at age 81. He was buried at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa.
3) Estella Anna, born 11 August 1918 at Carroll County, Iowa. She died 5 January 2004 in Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa. She was buried at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa.

Catherine died on 23 August 1930 at St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 40. She suffered from diabetes. She was buried on 25 August 1930 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Carroll County, Iowa.

 


Rose Hoffman (Nieland) (1891-1966)

The second wife of William D. Nieland (1888-1975)

Rose Hoffman, daughter of Frank and Mary Hoffman, was born on 26 August 1891 at Templeton, Carroll County, Iowa. She married John Hackfort on 14 September 1915 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Roselle, Carroll County, Iowa. She married Will Nieland on 18 February 1941. There were no children of William D. Nieland and Rose Hoffman.

Rose died on 10 January 1966 at Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa, at age 74. She is buried at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery, Roselle, Carroll County, Iowa.
