Arthur Anthony Braun  1900-1989

Arthur A. Braun, 88, of Alton, died Wednesday, March 19, 1989 at Marlan Health Center, Sioux City, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alton. Msgr. Nicholas Ruba officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mr. Braun was born Aug. 8, 1900, at Exira to Frank and Catherine Nepper Braun. He lived at Exira until 1908 when he moved with his parents to near LeMars. He married Bertha Nieland Jan. 20, 1925, at Breda. They farmed near LeMars until 1929 when they moved to near Alton. She died Oct. 3, 1952.

His marriage to Dolorosa Eulberg Henrich took place Aug. 21, 1954, at Alton. The couple farmed near Alton until 1973 when they retired but continued to live at the farm.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a past member of the church board. He was a member of St. Mary's church choir for over 70 years.

He has 118 descendants. They are his wife, Dolorosa of Alton; three sons, Leo of Granville; Arthur J. of Marcus and Thomas of Alton; two daughters, Mrs. Cyril (Rose Mary) Ortmann of Merrill and Mrs. Milton (Kathleen Kay) Delperdang of Marcus; a stepson, Robert Henrich of San Pedro, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Estelle Henrich of Long Island, NY; Mrs. Bill (Dolores) Pfaffle of Sioux City and Mrs. Charles (Rosemary) Iddings, Sioux Falls; 44 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren, and nine step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul of Northridge, Calif. and Karl of LeMars; four sisters, Mrs. Ben (Philomeme) Mayrose and Mrs. Joe (Josephine) Alesch of LeMars, Mrs. Fred (Leona) Wicklow of New York and Mrs. Gregg (Mary) Kass of Sibley.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Margaret) Schreier; a granddaughter, Rita Braun; two brothers, John and Franz Braun and three sisters, Mrs. Bill (Gertrude) Groetken, Mrs. Leonard (Rita) Hoffman and Collette Braun in infancy.
