Final Rites Held Today for B. G. Schettler
Lifetimes Resident Died at His Home Sunday Night

Bernard G. Schettler, 75, lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at his home here, about 8:30 Sunday night, after a long illness. Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. March 12 at St. Bernard's Church. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers.

The body was at the Olerich funeral home in Carroll, where the rosary was prayed at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. The body was brought to the family home here, where the rosary was lead by Rev. John Hausman at 8:00 p.m. The Catholic Order of Foresters recited the rosary at 9:00 p.m.

Mr. Schettler, son of Benedict and Anna Mary Loneman Schettler was born August 18, 1878 on a farm one half-mile east of Breda where he spent his childhood. He was married to Emma Hoebing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoebing at St. Bernard's Church by the Rev. A. J. Andler, February 12, 1901.

The couple established their home on a farm northeast of Breda, where they lived until they move to Breda in 1949. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on February 12, 1951, which all their children present.

Mr. Schettler leaves his wife and ten children. Eugene and Leonard of Carroll, Mrs. Herman (Colette) Grote, Cyril and Joseph Schettler, Breda, Mrs. Ray (Marcella) Gross, Carroll, Sister M. Karen (Laurine), Sister M. Cecile (Lucille), Ray and Rita Schettler, Breda, and 40 grandchildren.

Also surviving are two nephews, Roger and John Hoebing who have lived with the Schettler family since childhood, three brothers, Henry, Sterling, OK; Frank, Larchwood; John, Wilmont, MN; a half-sister, Mrs. Frank Theile.

Four children preceded Mr. Schettler in death. Also deceased are half-sisters Mrs. Tony Fehring, and half-brother Theodore Schulte.

He was a member of St. Bernard Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
