MRS. WM. NIELAND OF MT. CARMEL DIES SATURDAY
MORNING
Mrs. William Nieland, well know in Carroll and
vicinity, died at the St. Anthony hospital at 1:30 o'clock
Saturday morning, August 23rd, 1930. Mrs. Nieland had been
in ill health for the last two years, suffering with diabetes
and complications. She had been in the St. Anthony hospital
at numerous times for treatment and spent the greater portion
of the spring there. Last Thursday she became very ill, and
returned to the hospital where, in spite of the best of medical
care and treatment, she passed away in the early morning hours
Saturday.
As Catherine Grote, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Herman Grotte of Breda, Mrs. Nieland was born at Breda September
25th, 1890. This was her home until her marriage to William
Nieland which took place January 16th, 1912, at St. Bernard's
church, Breda. Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Nieland
located on a farm four miles north of Carroll, which has since
been the family home.
To Mr. and Mrs. Nieland were born two sons and
one daughter, Andrew, Walter and Stella.
Mrs. Nieland was a devout Catholic and a faithful
member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, Mt. Carmel. She
was a splendid, ambitious woman, happiest when at home with
her family. She was usually busy with her household duties
and derived much pleasure from these activities, often doing
more than her health would permit.
Besides her husband and children, she is survived
by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Grotte of Breda, and by
four sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Ben Nieland, Miss Anna
Grotte, Miss Regina Grotte, Mrs. Hildegard Grotte, Anton Grotte
and Herman Grotte, all of Breda. She was a niece of Mrs. Joseph
Heue of this city.
Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Mount
Carmel church, Mt. Carmel, at 9 o'clock Monday morning and
burial was made in the Mt. Carmel cemetery.
Relatives from a distance in attendance
at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Braun of Alton, Ia.,
Mrs. Godfrey Rust and sons, Joe and Frank, of Rice Lake, Wis.,
Joe Rust and son, Frank, and daughter, Josephine, and Mrs.
Joseph Riesberg and children of St. James, Minn.

We have loved her during life, let us not
abandon her until we have conducted her by our prayers into
the house of the Lord. For she has joined those she has
loved and waits for those she still loves.

to the bright home of Heaven where we trust Thou and Thy
Blessed Mother have woven for her a crown of unfading glory.
