Charles Leslie Killeen 1915 - 1970

Funeral services for Charles Killeen were held Monday morning at St. Columbkill's Catholic Church in Churdan. Father Leo L. Riesberg was celebrant, and Father John Turza of LeMars, formerly of Churdan gave the sermon. The casket bearers were Richard Killeen, James Mielk, Paul Happe, Patrick Killeen, Jerry Carey, and John Brend. Burial was in the Cedar cemetery west of Churdan.

Charles Leslie Killeen, son of Frank and Josephine Block Killeen, was born near Arcadia, Iowa, on May 4, 1915, and passed away Thursday evening, January 1, 1970, at his home west of Churdan. He attended the parochial school in Arcadia and graduated from the High School at Westside. He had been in failing health the past three years.

On February 22, 1944 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Reis, the wedding taking place at the St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda. Born to his union were two daughters and one son, Joleen of Northfield, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Snyder of Atlantic, and Stephen at home.

The first five years of their married life was spent near Arcadia, where they were engaged in farming. Then they moved to the Churdan community, where they farmed the Merrill Rogers farm west of Churdan for six years, and the past several years they had lived on the Louis Carey farm, where they were living at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife Lorraine, three children, a granddaughter, Christine Ann Snyder, his mother, Mrs. Josephine Killeen, now residing at the St. Anthony Care Center at Carroll, four brothers, Arnold of Arcadia, Lorne of Westside, Melvin of Templeton, and Eldore of Sac City, and one sister, Mrs. Laverna Buffton of Oakland, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father.
