Delmar “Del” J. Thelen, 64, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Sacred Heart Church, with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Humboldt with full military rites presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5240 and the American Legion #119.  Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, to Laufersweiler - Sievers Funeral Home, where there will be a Vigil at 5 p.m.  Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Delmar Joseph Thelen was born Dec. 31, 1946 in Carroll.

He was raised and educated in Breda. Delmar graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in Breda. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served during Vietnam for four years, mainly in Thailand. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Delmar returned to the Carroll area.

On Jan. 6, 1972, Delmar was united in marriage to Barbara C. Williams at St. John’s Catholic Church in Gilmore City. The couple eventually made their home in Fort Dodge.

Shortly after marriage Del began working for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He retired in 2002 and enjoyed being a Valet at Trinity Regional Medical Center during his retirement.

Delmar is survived by his son, Curtis (Mindy) Thelen of Bode; daughter, Heidi Thelen of Fort Dodge; seven grandchildren; siblings, Elise Hausman of Carroll, Merlin (Lois) Thelen of Marble Falls, Texas, Lenus (Jeannie) Thelen of Carroll, Lois Vogt (Denny) of Omaha, Neb., Myra Stangl (Don) of Carroll, Allen (Louella) Thelen of Carroll, Mary Louis Thelen of Sioux City, Jan Overgaared (Al) of Flat Rock, N.C., Wayne (Sarah) Thelen of Marble Falls, Texas, and Nancy Pudenz (Dave) of Auburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Math and Philomena (Boes) Thelen; wife, Barb; brother, Roger Thelen and brother-in-law, Bob Hausman.
