Donald Lee Worshek 1941-2013

Donald "Donnie" Lee Worshek, 71, died on June 23, 2013, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bayard, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be in the Highland Township Cemetery in Guthrie County.

A son of Orville and Juanita Worshek, Donnie was born August 3, 1941, in Panora, Iowa. He graduated from Panora High School. Donnie joined the U.S. Navy from December 1960 until July 1967. He served as a Storekeeper on board the USS Mount Katmai ammunition ship that saw service in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He lived in Wyoming and Minnesota and worked as an over-the-road truck driver for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion Bryan-Mercer Post #44.

Donnie married Marietta Eischeid Smith on July 15, 1989, and they made their home in Bayard, Iowa. After retiring as a truck driver, Donnie became a bus driver for the Coon Rapids-Bayard School District. Donnie never passed up an opportunity to make a child smile as he assured their safety to and from school. He loved animals, especially dogs and horses. Donnie also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

Donnie will be missed by his wife of 23 years, Marietta Worshek; daughter, Kelly Worshek of Saginaw, MN; sons, Duane and Bobbie Worshek of CA; brothers, Lynn Worshek of Bayard and Denny Worshek (Rita) of Silver Lake, MN; sister, Marilyn Behr of Panora; stepchildren, Lynn and Deb Smith of Bayard, Danny and Amy Smith of Grimes, and David Smith of Scranton; nine step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and many sisters- and brothers- in law, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Juanita Worshek; parents-in-law, Gerry and Leona Eischeid; sister-in-law, Dixie Worshek; step-son, Gene Smith; two step-grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Smith; and former wife, Mary Fadden Worshek.
