Donald Raymond Thobe 1933 - 1981

MALLARD—Donald Thobe, 48, of Mallard, a native of Breda, died Tuesday, June 30, at University Hospitals, Iowa City, of burns suffered when a hot water heater exploded at his home Wednesday, June 24.

Funeral mass was celebrated at St. Catherine Catholic church, Truman, and burial was in Ridgelawn cemetery there.

Relatives from Iowa attending the rites included Norman Ludwig, Breda; Orville Ludwig, Mount Carmel; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ludwig, Odebolt; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Steinkamp and son, Wall Lake; Daune Ludwig, Sioux Rapids, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Thobe, Auburn. The Olson Funeral Home of Truman was in charge of arrangements.

Surviving are sons Dale, Mallard, and Allen, St. Peter; daughter Diane, Mankato; mother Mrs. Julia Thobe, New Ulm; sister Mrs. Harold (Bernita) Lappe, New Ulm, and brother Joe, Lewisville, Minn.

Mr. Thobe, who was employed by the Plover, Iowa, Elevator Company, was born May 2, 1933, in Breda, a son of Frank and Julia Steinkamp Thobe. The family moved to Mountain Lake in 1947.

He was married to Mary Alice Schultz in 1958 at St. James. He lived in Truman from 1975 to 1978.
