ANKANY, IA — Douglas R. Bierl, 36, died Wednesday, May 11, 2004 of colon cancer after a short illness. Funeral services will be held for Douglas at 10:30 A.M., Saturday May 15th, at Our Ladies of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Greg Leach officiating. Burial will be at St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.

A Visitation will be held at Our Ladies of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church from 5 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday.

Douglas R. Bierl was born in Ft. Dodge, the oldest of four children of Russell and Dianne Bierl.

Douglas attended the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton, IA as well schools in Ankeny and Saydel, where he completed his education in 1989.

Douglas worked for Progress Industries in Newton and at the Briggs Medical Supply Warehouse in Urbandale.

He lived at the 5th Street Mainstream Home in Ankeny.

Douglas liked to attend Sunday Mass at Our Ladies Immaculate Heart Church and sing all the songs with his family. He also looked forward to participate yearly with trips to Camp Sunny Side.

Survivors include his parents, Russell and Dianne of Ankeny, one sister, Rachelle and her husband Anthony and niece Grace of St. Louis, and two brothers, Mitchell of Arlington, VA and Ross of Ankeny.

Memorials can be made to Our Ladies Immaculate Heart Catholic Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
