Carroll, IA, July 1998 Mass of the Christian Burial for Evelyn E. Nieland of Carroll will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 1998 at St. Bernard church in Breda. Mrs. Nieland, 82, died this morning, Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. The Rev. James Smith will officiate the Mass. Lector will be Randy Nieland. Casket bearers will be Donald, Randy and Allen Nieland and Rollin, Todd and Trent Auen. Friends will call after 2:30 and the St. Bernard Ladies Guild will recite a rosary at 3 Thursday afternoon at Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 Thursday night at the funeral home. A daughter of Amos K. and Anna (Popp) Epsen, she was born March 3, 1916, at Manning and was educated at rural Arcadia with the Rev. Mathias Stork officiating. Mrs. Nieland was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting afghans, playing cards and dancing. A member of St. Bernard Parish and its Ladies Guild in Breda, she moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home in 1996. Survivors include her husband, Norbert, of Carroll; a brother-in-law, Orville Auen, of Denison; a niece; and a nephew. Mrs. Nieland was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
