Gene Allan Smith 1964-2002

Mass of the Christian burial for Gene Allan Smith will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bayard.
Mr. Smith, 38, of Bayard, died Sunday, Aug. 18, at his home.
The Revs. Tan Van Tran and Ray Higgins will be celebrants at the Mass, Lector will be Judy Vaughn. Eucharistic ministers will be Joyce and Denny Betts.
Born July 18, 1964, in Carroll, he was a son of Larry and Marletta (Eischeid) Smith. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1982.
He married Christina Ilene Thomas on April 17, 1982. Mr. Smith farmed before deciding to further his education and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Wayne (Neb.) State College in May 2001.
He married Jill Cay Enne on Aug. 8, 1998, at St. Patrick Church in Perry. They lived in Sioux City and Lincoln, Neb.
He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Lincoln. He moved back to Bayard in April 2002 and worked on the farm for Gary Fell.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Jill Smith, of Lincoln, Neb.; four children, Candace Smith of Kearney, Neb., Alysha Smith of Bayard, Tyson Smith of Bayard and Breanna Smith of Lincoln; his mother, Marletta and her husband, Don Worshek, of Bayard; three brothers, Lynn Smith and his wife, Deb, of Bayard, Danny Smith and his wife, Amy, of Grimes and David Smith of Bayard; and his grandmother, Ruby Smith, of Bayard.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Smith; and grandparents Leona and Gerry Eischeid and Alvin Smith.
