Herman J. Hackfort 1916-1985

Mass of the Christian Burial for Herman J. Hackfort, 69, of Route 1, Carroll, who died late Monday evening, December 23, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, will be concelebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, at Holy Spirit church with the Revs. Roger Augustine, V.G., and Thomas Munn as celebrants.

Connie Irlbeck will be lector and Ron and Jim Schneider mass-servers. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Harold Brincks, Gerald Schneider, Merle Trecker, Gerald Renze, Howard Pietig and Phillip Eichhorn.

Friends and relatives may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2 p.m. Thursday. Rosaries will be recited at 3 and 8 P.m. by Holy Spirit parish and at 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Hackfort is survived by his wife, Estella, Carroll; two sons: John H. Hackfort and James Hackfort, both of Carroll; two daughters, Barbara Hackfort and Lou Ann Hackfort, both of Carroll; a brother, Lambert Hackfort, Carroll, and two sisters; Mrs. Paul (Mercedes) Fasbender, and Mrs. Arlo (Jeanette) Jons, both of Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rose Marie, in October 1969; two brothers in infancy and his stepfather, William D. Nieland.

Mr. Hackfort was born at Roselle on July 3, 1916, a son of John and Rose Hoffman Hackfort. He spent his entire lifetime in the Carroll and Roselle communities and attended the former SS. Peter and Paul school in Carroll and Holy Angel's school in Roselle

.On November 30, 1939, he was married to Estella Nieland at the former SS. Peter and Paul church in Carroll by the Rev. Lambert Schenkelberg.

After their marriage, they made their home on a farm south of Carroll where he farmed for 51 years. He was a member of Holy Spirit parish in Carroll.
