James D. Stacey, 64, of Marshall, formerly of Fonda, Iowa, died Dec. 26, 2010, in Fonda.

Funeral mass will be held Monday, Jan. 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Visitation will take place on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2010, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake with Full Military Rites by the Alta VFW Post #6172. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

James David Stacey was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of Cleo and Gertrude (Mackey) Stacey. On March 3, 1947, James was baptized into the Catholic faith and later confirmed in 1957. Growing up, he lived in Fonda, where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School and later graduated from Fonda High School in 1965. Following high school graduation, on Oct. 1, 1968, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served his country during the Vietnam War. While serving, he received numerous awards until he was honorably discharged on March 26, 1970. On May 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Janice Nieland in Miami, Okla.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall. While living in Storm Lake, he worked at Hygrade. He worked at Wilsons in Marshall and cleaned and swept chimneys and cooking vents for Hardee's restaurants. He also worked at Marshall Habilitation Center and owned Crazy Jim's Army and Navy surplus store until he sold it because of health reasons. He enjoyed photography and his computer. He loved his dogs and fishing with his buddy, Ed. One of his most special memories was a trip to New York City.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Stacey of Marshall; mother-in-law, Marie Nieland of Storm Lake; brother-in-law, Leroy Nieland of Fonda; sisters-in-law, Carleen Schwieso of Manilla, Iowa; Karen Triplett and her husband, Wilbur, of Storm Lake, Rose Rasmussen and her husband, Dennis, of Manilla, Carol Copeland and her husband, Steve, of Omaha, Neb., and Jean Fassler and her husband, Matt, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; seven nephews; two nieces; 10 great-nephews and great-nieces; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Gertrude Stacey; father-in-law, Richard Nieland; great niece, Emily Nieland; uncles, aunts and cousins.
