John S. Nieland 1902-1991 The Carroll Times Herald, November 1991 AUBURN—John Nieland, 88, of Auburn died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1991, at his home. Mr. Nieland was born on Nov. 8, 1902 in Breda, a son of Bernard and Kathryn Nieland. Mr. Nieland married Rose Freking in 1930 in Breda and the couple had farmed in the Lake City - Auburn area since 1933. Mass of the Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn with the Rev. G.R. Wingert officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery in Auburn. Survivors include his wife, Rose; sons Marvin Nieland of Auburn and Robert Nieland of Davenport; a daughter, Velma Nieland of Auburn; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Julius Nieland of Carroll, and Joseph Nieland, Gerhard Nieland and Anthony Nieland all of St. Cloud, Minn.; and two sisters, Clara Roberts of Sauk Rapids, Minn., and Christina Weber of St. Cloud, Minn. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, LaVerne Nieland; and two brothers.
