JOSEPH J. REIS SR.

Joseph J. Reis Sr., 69, died about 4:05 a.m. Monday, July 29, at St. Anthony Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital at 5:30 p.m. Sunday after suffering a heart attack at his home at 1010 North Court Street, Carroll.

Requiem mass will be read at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church, of which he was a member. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Henry B. Karhoff will officiate; and interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Breda.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday at the Sharp Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 and 8:30 p.m. Monday, and at 3, 8 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Reis was born Aug. 13, 1893, at Ramsey, Ill., a son of John and Mary Reis. As a young man he settled in the Breda vicinity; and in World War I, served overseas with the 16th Infantry. He was married to Caroline Steinkamp on Nov. 22, 1920, at St. Bernard's Church, Breda, with the Rev. Fr. Schulte officiating.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Reis farmed east of Breda, then south of Breda until moving into Breda, where they made their home until 1944. Since that year they had lived in Carroll.

He is survived by his wife; nine children—Mrs. Charles (Lorraine). Killeen, Churdan; LaVerdos Reis, Wall Lake; Mrs. Lawrence (Darnella) Loneman, Maple River; Mrs. Milo (Janice) Olerich, Scranton; Delmar Reis, Odebolt; Mrs. Louis (Betty) Williams, Carroll; Mrs. Harold (Ila Mae) Riesberg, Halbur; Joseph Reis Jr., Wall Lake; and Karen Ann Reis, at home; also 34 grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Fred Reis, Walcott, Ind; Frank Reis and Ed Reis, Lafayette, Ind.; Mrs. R. H. Reever, Pana, Ill.; Mrs. Art Deakins, Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. E. D. Donvan, Assumption, Ill.; and Mrs. Mary Hemelick, Tucson, Ariz.

Mr. Reis was preceded in death by two sons, Myron and Eunice; his parents and two sisters.
