Joseph Nieland, 69, of Carroll died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, at the Perry Nursing Home here. A retired farmer, he had been in failing health for several years.

Requiem mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church, with internment in St. Bernard's Cemetery at Breda. Friends may call at the Twit Funeral Home starting at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. The rosary will be recited Thursday at 3 and 8 p.m.

Mr. Nieland, a son of Henry and Anna Koester Nieland, was born March 21, 1904, at Breda and received his education there. He is survived by three children, six grandchildren, four brothers and a sister. Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
