Julius J. Nieland Jr.  1938-2001

Mass of the Christian burial for Julius Nieland, Jr., of Carroll will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2001, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Timothy Schott as celebrant.

Mr. Nieland, 63, died Monday, June 11, 2002, at his residence in Carroll following a brief illness

.Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Wednesday by the parish at the funeral home.

The organist is Stacey Schnuckel, Soloist is Tyler Schnuckel.

Internment will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the American Legion. The lector for the Mass will be Steve Hanson. Gift bearers will be Mr. Nieland's four children. Eucharistic minister will be Kay Nieland. Casket bearers will be Anthony Nieland, Aaron Nieland, Ronnie Nieland, Barry Nieland, Marc Nieland and Daniel P. Hanson.

Mr. Nieland was born on Jan. 22, 1938, at Rockwell City, a son of Julius A. and Emma (Huegerich) Nieland.

He spent his younger years in the Rockwell City and Lake City communities and graduated from Lake City High School.

He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in August of 1960 and was honorably discharged in August of 1964 with the rank of corporal. He and Lillian Ayers were married on Nov. 11, 1963, in Yuma, Ariz. The couple made their home in Las Vegas, Nev., until 1969 when they moved to Carroll.

Mr. Nieland was employed as a route salesman for the Lange's Dairy, A.E. Dairy, Colonial Baking Company, and for the past 18 years with Metz Baking Company.

He was to officially retire this month. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish, the Parish Men's Club, the Carroll American Legion, the Teamster's Union and the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Mr. Nieland is survived by his wife, Lillian Nieland, of Carroll; four children and their families, Debra Hike and her husband, Keith, of Glidden, Michael J. Nieland and his wife, Cheryl, of Des Moines, Cynthia Schnuckel and her husband, Rodney, of Odebolt, and Stephanie Nieland and her special friend, Shane Hanson, of Carroll, 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Erma Hanson and her husband Dan, of Honey Creek, and Mary Schroeder and her husband, Dan of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Donald Nieland and his wife, Kay, of Carroll, Virgil Nieland of Ralston, Jim Nieland and his wife, Pam, of Carroll, and Larry Nieland and his wife, Karan, of Tucson.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Sharon Nieland.
