Lawrence G. “Zeke” Loneman 1926 - 2002

Mass of the Christian burial for Lawrence "Zeke" Loneman of Maple River will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2002, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Maple River.

Mr. Loneman, 76, died Monday, June 24, at Centers for Long Term care in Carroll.

The Rev. Robert Brown will preside at the Mass. Lector will be Sarah Loneman. Gift bearers will be Laura Venteicher, Kelli Julich, Andrew Loneman, Ashley Venteicher, Amber Venteicher and Glory Loneman. Casket bearers will be Gary Beyerink, Lynn Wuebker, Marvin Huelsing, Tim Heinrichs, Jay Riesberg and Joe Thelen. Burial with military honors by the Breda American Legion post will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Maple River.

Visitation starts at 2:30 p.m., a rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. and the parish will conduct a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.

A son of Joseph and Frances (Griffin) Loneman, he was born Jan. 9, 1926, at Carroll, attended St. Francis School in Maple River and would spend most of his life in the community. Mr. Loneman entered the Army in May 1945 and served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres during World War II. He was honorably discharged in May 1947. He and Darnella Reis were married Jan. 15, 1946, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.

After Mr. Loneman was discharged they moved to Maple River. Mr. Loneman worked as a bridge repairman for Chicago and North Western Railroad. He worked for B.A. Pille and Son of Maple River then worked for Juergens Produce and Feed Co. of Carroll from 1962 until retiring in 1989.

Mr. Loneman was a member of St. Francis parish and its Men's Club, and he enjoyed playing cards and caring for his cars.

Survivors include six children and their spouses: Kenneth and Barb Loneman of Altoona, Richard and Brenda Loneman of Lee's Summit, Mo., Donna and Ron Venteicher of Carroll, Diane and Zach Campbell of Maple River, Nancy and Ray Julich of Lakeside and Jerry and Mikeal Loneman of Plattsmouth, Neb.; 20 grandchildren ; six great grandchildren; three brothers and their wives: Merlin "Ted" and Judy Loneman of Mount Carmel,  Ervin "Whitey" and Lois Loneman of Carroll and Jim Loneman of Carroll; a sister, Lois Beymer, and her husband, Jim, of Denison; and a sister-in-law, Iris Loneman Oswald, and her husband, Andy, of Omaha, Neb.

Mr. Loneman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darnella, in February 1992; a grandson, Kyle Venteicher; and two brothers: Eugene "Johnny" and Robert "Windy" Loneman.
