Leo B. Nieland, 88, of Breda, died unexpectedly early
Sunday, Dec. 20, 1992, at his residence of an apparent heart condition.
Mass of the Christian burial was celebrated at 10:30
a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at St. Bernard Church in Breda. Celebrant
was Father Thomas Hart.
Lectors were Jodi Brincks and Brenda Bahrke. Gift
bearers were Cindy Gramowski, Deb Dunn and Mary Jo Schettler. Mass
Servers were Cory Gramowski and Ryan Borer and eucharistic minister
was Dale Mueggenberg.
Burial was in St. Bernard Cemetery in Breda.
Casket bearers were Tim Nieland, Russ Nieland, Dean
Bruning, Dan Bruning, Robert Nieland and Dean Gramowski.
Honorary casket bearers were Clarence Ludwig, Clarence
Tiefenthaler, Elmer Grote, Carl Snyder, Ott Boeckman and Roger Nieland.
Mr. Nieland was born Oct. 27, 1904, at Breda, a son
of Henry Joseph and Agnes (Ahrling) Nieland. He spent his entire
lifetime in the Breda community and attended St. Bernard schools.
On Aug. 21, 1929, he was married to Florence Mueggenberg
at St. Bernard Church in Breda by Father Joseph Schulte. Following
their marriage, the couple made their home on a farm south of Breda
until 1955, when they moved to their present home in Breda.
Mr. Nieland was a member of St. Bernard Parish in
Breda, Breda Senior Citizens and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by his wife, Florence, of Breda; three
sons, Norman Nieland and his wife, Gladys, of Breda, Melvin Nieland
and his wife, Donita, of Carroll, and Dr. Leo Nieland and his wife
Dorothy, of Denver, Colo.; one daughter Marita Bruning and her husband,
Delmar, of Breda; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one
brother, Lawrence Nieland and his wife, Helen, of Breda; and two
sisters, Mary Nieland of Breda and Ceal Huegerich and her husband,
Lawrence of Breda.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother,
Tony Nieland.
