Leona Mary Reising (Eischeid) 1920-2000 The New Gazette, Bayard, Iowa, August 2, 2000 Leona Eischeid Rites July 27 Mass of the Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 27, for Leona Mary Eischeid of Bayard. Fr. Tan Van Tran, Fr. Jim Wilwerding and Fr. David Fenelon were concelebrants of the Mass at St. Patrick’s [Catholic] Church in Bayard. Lectors were Quinn Eischeid, Emily Dailey and Wade Derry. Patrick Dailey, Alexis Eischeid and Baylee Tews were Mass servers and cantors were Mike Laughery and Sandi Laughery. Eucharistic ministers were Dean Hopkins and Tracey Malm. Gift bearers were Tandem Eischeid, Logan Patrick, Tara Janssen, Shyanne Smith, Sad am Smith, Breda Derry and David Smith. Renee Laughery provided organ accompaniment for the congregational singing. Honorary casket bearers were Savannah Eischeid, Misean Tews, Denton Patrick, Christopher Capps, Shonda Smith and Jeff Jensen. Interment was in Highland Township Cemetery, Bayard, with the casket carried by Danny Smith, Denise Locke, Terry Betts, Lisa Laughery, Jess Denny, Thaine Eischeid, Sarah Dailey and Denna Derry. A rosary and prayer service was held Wednesday evening in St. Patrick’s Church. LEONA MARY EISCHEID Leona Mary, daughter of Max and Clara Boes Reising, was born March 19, 1920, at Breda. On November 21, 1939, she was united in marriage with Gerry John Eischeid at Breda. Fifteen children were born to this union. They farmed in the Carroll area until 1952 when they moved to Guthrie Center. In 1979 they moved to Bayard. Leona was a homemaker while her husband farmed and worked with heavy equipment. She also worked for 19 years at the Bayard Care Center and at a nursing home in Panora. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and playing the slot-machines. Spending time with her family was of the utmost importance to her. Leona was very faithful throughout her life in praying the rosary. Leona was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Bayard. She and Gerry enjoyed wintering in Texas for 15 years until 1995 when Gerry’s health began to fail. He died on December 17, 1997, after which Leona remained in their apartment. Leona suffered a heart attach in late June of 2000 and following complications died at Mercy Medical Center on Tuesday, July 25, at the age of 80 years. Besides her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Eischeid in 1944 and Gail Smith in 1996; grandson, Troy Eischeid; granddaughters Nicold Capps and Ronda Hopkins; great grandsons Joshua Smith and Jonathon Jensen; son-in-law, Larry Smith; brothers, Greg Reising, Andrew Reising, Michael Reising, Conrad Reising, Alvin Reising, Fr. Zeno Reising, Lawrence Reising, and sisters, Amelia Becker and Bernice Pudenz. Leona is survived by 13 children: Marietta and husband, Don Worshek of Bayard; Carlene and husband, Chuck Jensen of Conway, MO; Judee and husband, James Vaughan of Yale; Carol and husband, Lyle Laughery of Guthrie Center; Joyce and husband, Dennis Betts of Coon Rapids; Lois and husband, Lanny Derry of Woodward; Leon Eischeid and wife, Cheryl of Bayard; Beverly and husband, Jack Dailey of Albion, NE; Sharon and husband, Gene Capps of Indianola; Cindy and husband, Al Phillips of West Des Moines; Mark Eischeid of Bayard; Geri and husband, Dana Tews of Bayard; and Kimberly and husband, Dennis Patrick of Guthrie Center. She is also survived by 51 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Audrey Smith of Bayard; sister Rosina O’Tool of Carroll; other relatives and many friends.
