Passed Away Thursday After About Four Weeks Illness. Lived Here Many Years.

The death of Mary Anna Boes occurred at her home Thursday afternoon, March 28, after about four weeks illness from stomach trouble and other complications. Prior to her last illness Mrs. Boes had been ailing at times but usually was about the house as usual. When taken ill about four weeks ago it was soon found out that her illness would not be of long duration but she bore her suffering without a murmur, passing quietly into enternal [sic] sleep, well fortified with the last rites of the church.

Mary Anna Nieland was born January 16, 1843, in Westpfalen [sic], Germany. In 1867 she came to this country and took up her home in Dyersville. In 1870 she was united in marriage to Gerhard Boes at Dyersville. In 1874 they moved to a farm in Sac county where they resided until 1900, when they moved to a farm west of Breda. In 1913 they moved to Breda where she has resided ever since. Her husband proceeded her February 19, 1915.

Nine children were born to their union of which eight still survive her. The children are: John, Theodore and Joseph who reside near Breda; Elizabeth, now Mrs. Ben Steinkamp residing northwest of town; Dora, now Mrs. Henry Muggenborg of Okarche, Oklahoma; Clara, now Mrs. M. J. Reising residing near Breda; Katherine, now Mrs. Leo Schulte residing near here; and Ida who made her home with her mother. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John H. Hoebing of Okarche, Oklahoma; one brother, Henry Nieland who resided northwest of Breda; 47 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Mrs. Boes was a very pleasant lady and enjoyed the love and respect of a host of people. She was ever ready to assist anyone in need when the opportunity presented, and was a devout member of the Catholic church.

The funeral services were held at St. Bernard's church Monday morning at 10 o' clock and interment made in the Catholic cemetery.
