Martha
Nieland, 90, of Breda, died Friday, June 11, 1993, at Valley Lutheran
Hospital in Mesa Ariz., of an apparent heart condition.
Mass of the Christian burial
for Mrs. Nieland was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 1993,
at St. Bernard Church in Breda with the Revs. Thomas Hart and Dennis
Sefcik as concelebrants.
Casket bearers were Paul Nieland,
Dennis Nieland, Robert Buelt, Arthur Braun, Thomas Braun and Robert
Nieland.
Lectors were Janet Renze and
John Nieland. Gift bearers were Denise and James Nieland. Mass servers
were Aaron Nieland and Todd Mueggenberg. Soloist was Marcy Braun.
Burial was at St. Bernard
Cemetery at Breda.
She was born Aug. 9, 1902,
at Exira, a daughter of John and Mary (Sauter) Braun. As a child
she moved with her family to LeMars, where she attended St. Joseph
elementary and high schools.
She and Louis C. Nieland were
married Sept. 19, 1933 at St. Joseph Church in Lemars with the Rev.
Leo Schumacher officiating. Following their marriage, the couple
farmed near Breda until 1967, when they moved into town.
She was a member of St. Bernard
Parish at Breda, the Parish Ladies Guild and Breda Senior Citizens
Club.
Survivors include three sons,
David Nieland of Breda, Roger Nieland and his wife Mary Ann, of
Breda, and Mark Nieland of South Amboy, N.J.; grandchildren Janet
Renze and her husband Kevin, of Ames and John Denise and James Nieland,
all of Breda.
Mrs. Nieland was preceded in death
by her parents and her husband, Louis, in October 1985.
