Merle Pudenz, 77, of Lake View, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial will be at Wall Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. today with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Merle Pudenz was born on Jan. 2, 1934, in Carroll, to parents Norbert and Elenore (Balk) Pudenz.

He spent most of his childhood in Auburn and Mount Carmel area, and lived there until 1962.  

He met the love of his life in Wilma “Jean” Boes of Breda, and they were married on Jan. 25, 1955, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breda.

This union was blessed with nine children.  They made their home in Breda, Lohrville, and in 1981, moved to Lake View.

Merle worked hard to provide for his family as a farmer.  He also started a popcorn business with Jean, which he was very proud of.  

The Pudenzes were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lohrville, and then were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake.  He was a member of the Lake View Lions Club and The Foresters. He loved farming, loved selling his popcorn, and especially loved his grandkids.

He is survived by his children Jeff (Nancy) Pudenz of Breda, Carmen (Dean) Reising of Des Moines, Jan (Lori) Pudenz of Canton, S.D., Julius “Juke” (Lisa) Pudenz of Lake View, Jerry (friend Maria) Pudenz of Lewisberg, Ohio, Jay (friend Theresa) Pudenz of Kansas City, Mo., Jody (Julie) Pudenz of Lewisberg, Ohio, Ann (Chris) Toft, Arcadia, and Jamie (Crystal) Pudenz of Lake View; 30 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers: Eugene (Dorothy) Pudenz, of Carroll, Lester (Barb) Pudenz, of Wall Lake, and Roger Pudenz of Carroll; sisters: Marilyn (Don) Wench of Carroll and Judy (Marvin) Masching of St. Louis, Mo.; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean; parents Norbert and Elenore; parents-in-law Julius and Myrtle Boes; and grandson Nathan Pudenz.
