Mildred Rose Pappe, 84, died March 14th at Wellington Place in Rancho Mirage, CA where she has resided since July 2004.

Born January 9, 1921 on a farm near Okarche, OK, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Nieland) Wittrock. She was raised in Okarche and attended Holy Trinity School.

On November 16, 1943 she married Max Major Pappe of Kingfisher, OK Following the birth of their three children, the family moved to Downey, CA, where they lived for twenty-three years. In 1971 the couple retired to Cathedral City, CA.

Mildred had several careers throughout her life. Besides being a dedicated homemaker, she worked as a fashion model and taught home economics for ten years at Pius X High School in Paramount, CA. After moving to Cathedral City, she was a highly successful home appliance saleswoman. In her free time she pursued sewing as a hobby and was a frequent guest at the Elks Lodge, where she and Max were renowned for their love of dancing.

She was admired by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered above all as a devoted wife to her husband Max as well as being hard working, honest, gracious and outgoing, and as a warm and caring mother and grandmother.

Mildred Pappe is survived by her three children and their spouses, Donald and Judy Pappe of Whittier CA, Marilyn Davis of Cathedral City CA, and Elaine and Robert Lawson of Laguna Beach, CA; five grandchildren, Deborah Jones, Kimberly Cheney, Robert Willis, Angela and Jessica Lawson; and five great grandchildren; two brothers, Cletus Wittrock of Okarche OK, Carl Wittrock of Bethany OK; one sister, Rita Forman of Kingfisher OK, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband of 58 years; three brothers, Lawrence and Herbert Wittrock of Okarche OK, and Louis Wittrock of Carroll, IA.

The family requests that Mildred Pappe be remembered by making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her name. Donations can be mailed to Alzheimer's Association, Coachella Valley Regional Office, 73-710 Fred Waring Dr., Suite 208, Palm Desert, CA 92260.
