Norbert Theodore “Nubbs” Potthoff 1927-2012

Norbert Theodore “Nubbs” Potthoff, 84, of Wall Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.
Funeral services was at 10:30 a.m. today, Aug. 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. Burial was at Wall Lake Cemetery in Wall Lake. Farber and Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake was in charge of arrangements.
Norbert Potthoff was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Halbur to Henry and Clementine (Wittrock) Potthoff. He grew up and attended school in Halbur and served a short term in the U.S. Navy before returning home.
He found the love of his life in Irma Steinkamp, and the two were married June 21, 1949, in Breda. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Don, Dave, Daryl, Doug and Debra. The Potthoffs were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake.
Nubbs worked hard to provide for his family as a farmer for many years. He was a partner in Potthoff Sales and Service, a small engine-repair shop in Wall Lake, as well as operating Nubb’s Place tavern in Halbur during their early married years.
He loved the farm and especially treasured the time he spent with his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Don (Janice) Potthoff of Wildwood, Mo., Dave (Carlene) Potthoff of Auburn, Daryl (Dawn) Potthoff of Wall Lake, and Doug (Stephanie) Potthoff of Norman, Okla.; daughter Deb (Harley) Adams of Wall Lake; grandchildren, Tracy Gibbs, Rachel DeSanto, Jamie Svoboda, Justin Potthoff, Brett, Derek, Reece, and Addison Potthoff, Matt and Bryan Potthoff, and Andrew and Tori Adams; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Merle (Lila) Potthoff of Halbur, and Mel (Betty) Potthoff of Manning; sisters, Arlene Rupiper of Carroll, Lois (Don) Hinners of Carroll and Joyce (Dick) Wright of Halbur; brothers-in-law, Danny Rowedder of Halbur and Ed (Marge) Steinkamp of Wall Lake; sister-in-law Bernice Steinkamp of Wall Lake; and many extended family members and friends.
Norbert was preceded in death by his wife, Irma, in 1997; parents, Henry and Clementine; parents-in-law, Theodore and Julia Steinkamp; sister Carol Rowedder; and brothers-in-law Paul Steinkamp and Ernest Rupiper.
