Patrick E. Nieland, 80, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at his home in Manson, following a battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson with Fr. Richard Reis and Fr. Gary Snyder officiating.

Burial was in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery in Manson.

Visitation was help on Sunday, June 27 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson, where there was a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a 7 p.m. vigil prayer service.

Patrick Nieland was born on March 17, 1924 in Sac County, the son of Bernard Anthony and Mary Grote Nieland. He graduated from St. Bernard's High School in Breda. He then served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On August 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Della Wittry at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Breda. The couple farmed in the Pocahontas and Manson areas and then Pat began working at Land O'Lakes from 1966 until his retirement in 1989.

Survivors include his wife Della; sons, Daniel (Cindy) Nieland, of Fort Dodge and Craig (Nikki) Nieland of Manson; daughters Sharon (Craig) Johnson of Manson and Tricia (Rob) Wetzel of St. Louis, Missouri; daughters-in-law, Julie Nieland of Iowa City and Mindy Nieland of Omaha, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers, Paul Nieland of Wall Lake, Cyril Nieland of Newell; sisters, Irene Bierl of St. Benedict, Jolene Jenson of Animosa and Charlotte Carter of Alta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Allen and Douglas, sister Florence Evers and brother Arthur Nieland.
