Richard A. Nieland Funeral services for Richard A. Nieland, 75, of Storm Lake were Tuesday, Mar. 1, 1994 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Fr. Clair L. Boes officiated with burial and military graveside rites by Amvets Post #66 of Storm Lake in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Storm Lake. Pallbearers were Kenneth Poeppe, Lee Vonnahme, Jerry Nieland, Ronald Reineke, Donald Reineke and Ray Reineke. Mr. Nieland died on Feb. 27,1994 at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Richard August Nieland was born on Apr. 2, 1918 to Frank and Mary Boeckman Nieland in Breda. He was raised on a farm near Breda, attending and graduating from St. Bernard's School in Breda. He spent five years in the Army-Air Force in World War II.

On Sept. 16, 1947 he was married to Marie A. Reineke at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Carroll. They lived on a farm near Breda and later on a farm near Fonda and then on a farm near Varina, before moving to Storm Lake. He also worked at Noble Manufacturing at Sac City, retiring in 1982. Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed reading, walking, gardening and spending time with grandchildren.

Mr. Nieland is survived by his wife, Marie Nieland of Storm Lake; a son, LeRoy Nieland, Fonda; six daughters, Carleen and Mick Schwieso, Manilla, Karen and Wilbur Triplett, Storm Lake, Janice and Jim Stacey, Marshall, Mo., Roselee and Dennis Rasmussen, Manilla, Carol and Steve Copeland, Sioux City and Jean and Matt Fassler Storm Lake;, grandchildren, Bob, Jerry,- Chad, Dawn, Jeff, Kurt, Melissa, and Ryan; step-grandchildren, Brian, Kevin and Kurt; two brothers, Norbert and Evelyn Nieland, Breda, and Arnold and Germaine Nieland, Auburn; four sisters, Julie Poeppe, Emmetsburg, Eleanor and George Nees, Carroll, Marie and Bill Reineke, Carroll, and Genevieve and Herman Lammers, West Union.He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sister Anthusa and an infant sister.

Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of arrangement.
