CARROLL— Mass of the Christian burial for Victor H. Tigges of Carroll will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham.
Mr. Tigges, 81, died Wednesday, July 25, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness.
The Rev. Anthony Pick and Deacon Louis Meiners will officiate the Mass. Lector will be Bridget Hutton. Gift bearers will be Mr. Tigges' grandsons: Brian Petty and Joel Schonberger. Servers will be Abby and Anna Hoffman and Ryan Nees. Eucharistic ministers will be Mary Heman and Leona Schmitz. Music will be by organist Donna Grossman and the St. Joseph Choir.
Casket bearers will be Randy Mantz, Roger Becker, Dennis Riesselman, Ron Nieland, Mark Schreck and Allan Schultes.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery at Willey with military honors by the Dedham American Legion post.
Visitation starts at 2:30 and a rosary will be prayed at 3 Sunday afternoon at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. St. Joseph Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 Sunday night at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
A son of Frank and Mary (Mattes) Tigges, he was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Audubon, County, attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School at Dedham and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1944.
He and Darlene Steinkamp [granddaughter of Ferdinand and Mary (Nieland) Steinkamp] were married Aug. 16, 1955. She died Jan. 29, 1967.
He and LouAnn Hackfort [granddaughter of William and Catherine (Grote) Nieland] were married Oct 30, 1992, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Willey with the Rev. Mark Harrington officiating.
Mr. Tigges had a corn shelling and hauling business for several years and was a longtime mechanic and truck driver, having worked for L.A. Smith Co., Mobil Gas station on U.S. 30, Mel's Repair and Matt Nepple.
He moved to Carroll Manor in 2005.
Mr. Tigges was a member of St. Mary Church but frequently attended his boyhood church, St. Joseph's at Dedham. He was a member of Dedham American Legion Post 20 and enjoyed fishing, playing cards, tinkering around and listening to Big Joe's polka program.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Ann, of Carroll; a son, Danny Tigges, of Carroll; two daughters: Darcy Schonberger and husband Rod of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Patricia Petty and husband Dell of Coon Rapids; two grandchildren: Bryan Petty and Joel Schonberger; six siblings and their spouses: Melvin Tigges of Guthrie Center, Marie Eischeid of Halbur, Raymond and Edna Tigges of Cedar Rapids, Anna Marie Sloup of Omaha, Neb., Martha and John Buelt of Glidden and Susan and Dean Davis of Glidden; two sisters-in-law: Lois Tigges of Lidderdale and Patricia Tigges of Fridley, Minn.; and a brother-in-law, Harold Heithoff, of Templeton.
Mr. Tigges was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Darlene; two daughters: Terry Lynn Tigges and Janet Lee Tigges; a grandson, Brent Petty; his parents-in-law, Joseph and Josephine Steinkamp; four brothers: [sic] Leander Tigges, Tigges, and Hilarian Tigges; three sisters: Dorothy Pille, Alice Heithoff and Alverna Tigges; his parents-in-law, Herman and Estella (Nieland) Hackfort; two brothers-in-law: Edward Eischeid and Virgil Pille; and a sister-in-law, Rose Marie Hackfort.
