William “Bill” Kramer, 70, of rural Glidden, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale with Fr. Timothy Schott as celebrant.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden after 5 p.m. today where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7 p.m.

Gift bearers will be Bill’s children Karen, Richard, and Kevin.

Lectors will be Glen Soyer and Dale Fogerty. 

Casket bearers will be Tom Sporrer, Jim Kramer, Glen Soyer, William Kanne, Dale Fogerty, Glen Leiting, and Dale Vonnahme. 

Burial will be at the Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery in Fort Dodge. 

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden.

Born on Aug. 11, 1940, at Carroll, he was the son of Henry and Theresa (Steinkamp) Kramer. Bill grew up on his family’s farm near Breda. 

As a boy he attended St. Bernard’s School in Breda and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1958.

Following high school he attended Jackson Welding School and became a certified welder. He was married to the love of his life Marilyn Leiting on April 20, 1963 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and served four years. Following the military, the couple moved to Fort Dodge, where he worked for New Idea Manufacturing as a welder.

Bill moved to Glidden aftwer his wife died in 1970 where he farmed until he retired in 2005. 

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lidderdale, the Carroll Knights of Columbus, and the Iowa Farm Bureau of which he had served as a board member. 

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, puzzles, and spending time with his friends and family.

Surviving are a daughter Karen Rodis and her husband Jeff of Omaha, Neb.; two sons: Richard Kramer of Carroll and Kevin Kramer and his wife Cheryl of rural Glidden; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother Donald Kramer and his wife Alice of Lake City; three sisters Shirley Fogerty and her husband Dale of Casa Grande, Ariz., Mary Kay Kanne and her husband William of Carroll, and Jane Soyer and her husband Glenn of Norwalk; three brothers-in-law Fr. Robert Leiting of Carroll, Glen Leiting and his wife Michelle of Westside, and Bruce Leiting of Waterloo; five sisters-in-law Rose Winker and her husband Ken of Windom, Minn., Jean Nasby and her special friend Wilbur Brewer of Dresden, Tenn., Laurete McGhee and her husband William of San Antonio, Texas, Eileen Sporrer and her husband Tom of Manning, Annette Quinlan of Austin, Minn., and Joan Hillhouse and her husband Hank of Lakeland, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1970, and a son John Michael in infancy.
