1915 Postcard

To Auguste Pappe from her daughter in Berlin, Gertrude "Trudel" (Pappe) Ulrich

This interesting postcard was sent from Berlin by Amalie Gertrude "Trudel" (Pappe) Ulrich (1891-?) to her mother, Auguste Pappe in Leipzig. The photo on the card is Gertrude holding her daughter, Gretchen Ulrich, who was born January 24, 1915.

The rambling message has been crossed out but is still mostly readable. Auguste's address is a Krankenhaus (hospital) near the city center. There is still a hospital at that address.

Somehow the card eventually made it's way to America and into the collection of Auguste's son, Arno Curt Pappe (1893-1948). It's possible that Auguste forwarded the card to Arno. Or, Auguste may have brought the card with her when she immigrated in 1923.

Addressed to:

Frau Auguste Pappe
Leipzig
Krankenhaus Liebigstrasse 20
Leipzig 13

My dear mother, Best Wishes from both of us. The pictures on the cards were so ugly that I mustn’t write, not with the cards. Willy said I shouldn’t send them because those of Gretchen were so horrible. Regards. yours Trudel
