Reiner Pappe, who lives in Schotten, Hesse, Germany recently
contacted us and has provided genealogy papers that show
his connection to the American Pappe line. Our common ancestor
is Hanns Erhard Pappe in generation 2. Reiner has also provided
some terrific photographs of his great grandfather, Friedrich
Otto Pappe (1882-1972), who left eastern Germany where the
Pappe line originated and moved west to the Hesse region
about 1923. You can see photos of Otto Pappe and his home
and factory in Lich on the Photos
Page.
February 24, 2002 -- Max Pappe, son of Arthur Pappe and
Violet Major Pappe passed away in Cathedral City, California,
at the age of 84 years. A Memorial
web page has been set up in his memory to celebrate
the highlights of his life.
December 26 - 31, 2001 -- Several Pappe descendants gathered
in Oklahoma to get reacquainted and exchange old photos
and stories. Visitors to this website can expect to see
many new items posted over the next few weeks as we share
our new discoveries.
Sharan Carman of Kingfisher was the organizer of the event
and her home, the old Pappe house at 8th and Miles, became
reunion headquarters. She brought out her old photos and
documents, including the original 1901 application for Richard
Pappe's liquor license and a terrific photograph of Albert
Pappe. Her photo of Richard Pappe Jr. in his two-piece bathing
costume was a big hit.
Elaine Pappe Lawson flew in from California with laptop,
scanner and camera in tow to fulfill her role of archivist
and historian. Meeting Pappe relatives after 40 years and
some for the first time surely was her most memorable experience
in 2001.
Nell Crosswhite Jersak and Nancy Jersak Henderson arrived
from Missouri with their car loaded with boxes of old photographs
and memorabilia. Each piece was carefully examined and photographed
and the large collection of old pictures were scanned. Some
memorable pieces were Richard's pasty cutters, Louise's
prayer books and personal items, Louise Jersak's shoes and
the only known photograph of little Clara Pappe! She also
produced a very large photograph in its original antique
frame that is believed to be Richard Pappe's brother in
Germany and a 1929 Oklahoma History book with three pages
dedicated to Richard Pappe's biography.
Sharan's sisters, Niter (Juanita) Pappe Sutterfield and
Sandra Pappe Terrell, drove in from around the state and
the entire entourage made a journey to Oklahoma City for
a long visit with Juanita Pappe Greer. Juanita produced
her photo albums for scanning and had many Pappe stories
to tell. She recalled visiting Pappe relatives in New Mexico
as a young child and the wonderful pastries they sold in
their bakery. The search for Pappe kin continues....
Johnny Pappe was unable to join the ladies in person, but
dropped off a large collection of documents and photographs
including a fabulous photograph of the Richard Pappe family
taken around 1893 and a collection of newspaper clippings
about the mysterious death of John (aka Johann Hermann)
Pappe in 1903. Chuck Altizer of Oklahoma City also dropped
in for a short visit with Sharan and Elaine. He's promised
to search his home for more Pappe memorabilia to share.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this event and lets
hope for a repeat performance in 2002. Springtime may see
us all gathering in Missouri to view the Pappe heirlooms
first hand.

December 7, 2001 -- This Pappe website was launched today!
It is the culmination of two years of research by a great
granddaughter of Richard Pappe Sr. and his wife, Louise
Kornrumpf Pappe. She created this website to present the
information amassed to date so that it can be shared with
other family members. It is hoped that other descendants
of these immigrant ancestors will contribute to this work
so that the full story of their common ancestry and heritage
will be discovered and preserved for future generations.
