Elizabeth Nieland (1884-1957)
Sister Mary Florina, FSPA
Sister
M. Florina, who was born and reared at Breda, Iowa was a daughter
of Henry and Anna (Köster) Nieland.
She entered the convent May 21, 1901 at the age of 16 and made her
vows in 1904. She was on the nursing staff of St. Anthony Hospital
in Carroll, Iowa for many years and served as director of St. Francis
Hospital School of Nursing, LaCrosse, Wisconsin from 1930 to 1948.
Sister Florina, who retired in 1948, was instrumental in much of
the progress which has been made in elevating nursing standards
and nursing education.
Sister Florina celebrated her golden jubilee as a
nun of Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration June 20, 1954,
at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse.
Sister M. Florina was the sister of Sister M. Sigmunda,
FSPA (Mary Magdalene Nieland).
