OU Student Dies of Injuries
NORMAN (AP) -- Flags on the University of Oklahoma campus were
at half-staff Friday in honor of a student who died when a flag
pole toppled over at a fraternity party. University president
David Boren ordered the flags lowered after the 9:20 a.m. death
of Jason Henry Wittrock, 20, of Okarche.
Wittrock had been in critical condition at Norman Regional
Hospital since the back of his head was crushed about 2 a.m.
Thursday at the Phi Kappa Psi house.
Wittrock was a member of the fraternity, which Boren suspended
Thursday. The house will be closed in the spring.
In a statement released Friday, Boren expressed his sympathy
to Wittrock's family and friends. He called Wittrock "a
fine young man who will be greatly missed on this campus."
Fraternity members were shaking the flagpole in front of their
fraternity house when the pole broke in two parts and fell onto
the group.
A second student, who was not identified, was treated for minor
injuries. Some beer may have been consumed by those shaking
the flagpole when it snapped, university officials said.

GERALDINE "GERRY" J. SIEGEL April 1918 — September
2004 of San Mateo, CA, died peacefully on Tuesday, September
14, 2004, has reunited with her husband, Edward [Siegel], after
44 years. Gerry died at the age of 86 with her family around
her in Mt. Angel, OR. She left behind an incredible legacy of
7 children, Larry, Diane, Patty, Sherry, Glenn, Don and Debbie,
3 sons-in-law, 3 daughters-in-law and 21 grandchildren. A Memorial
Mass will be at St. Gregory's Church in San Mateo on Friday,
September 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.

Paul Tyler Knecht (1983-2005)

Funeral services were Monday, February 7, 2005, for Paul "Tyler"
Knecht, 21, who died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, in a car accident
near Glencoe, OK.
He was the son of Denny and Melissa Knecht of Okarche. He was
born on May 20, 1983 in Okarche and graduated from Okarche High
School in 2002.
Officiating minister was the Rev. John E. Ellington, pastor
of St. John's Lutheran Church, Okarche. Burial was in the St.
John's Lutheran Cemetery, Okarche, under direction of the Sanders
Funeral Services of Kingfisher. Funeral services were held in
the Okarche High School fieldhouse.
While in high school, Tyler was an active Okarche Warrior,
where he participated as a member of the basketball and golf
teams. He was also a member of numerous student organizations
and on the honor roll. Tyler was active in the Okarche 4-H Club,
Kingfisher County Trap Shooting Team and 4-H Ambassador program.
He was named to the Kingfisher County 4-H Hall of Fame in 1999.
He received his associates degree in Business Management from
Redlands Community College in 2004. While at Redlands, he served
as an RCC Student Ambassador. He also received the Oklahoma
Association of Community Colleges Scholarship in 2003. He was
a member of Phi Beta Lambda Business Fraternity, of which he
served as Vice President.
Tyler was currently attending Oklahoma State University pursuing
a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration. At OSU, he
was a member of the 4-H Alumni Association and was an active
participant in intramural sports.
Tyler was wonderful person that could always make you laugh.
He was the true meaning of a friend and was always there for
everyone. He will truly be missed by anyone who ever had the
pleasure of meeting him. Tyler was an excellent young man who
valued his faith, his family, and his friends.
He is survived by his parents, Denny and Melissa Knecht; sister
Brandi and husband, Brian Krittenbrink; and nephew and niece,
Wyatt and Gracie, all of Okarche; his grandparents Melvin and
Mary Meyer and Paul and Ruth Knecht. He is preceded in death
by a sister, Katlyn and grandparents Andy, and Mildred Laub;
Walter and Myrtle Meyer; John and Theresa Wittrock and Leo and
Rose Knecht.

Mildred Rose Pappe, 84, died March 14th at Wellington Place
in Rancho Mirage, Calif. where she has resided since July 2004.
Born January 9, 1921 on a farm near Okarche, Ok la., she was
the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Nieland) Wittrock. She was
raised in Okarche and attended Holy Trinity School.
On November 16, 1943 she married Max Major Pappe of Kingfisher,
Ok la. Following the birth of their three children, the family
moved to Downey, Calif., where they lived for twenty-three years.
In 1971 the couple retired to Cathedral City, Calif..
Mildred had several careers throughout her life. Besides being
a dedicated homemaker, she worked as a fashion model and taught
home economics for ten years at Pius X High School in Paramount,
Calif.. After moving to Cathedral City, she was a highly successful
home appliance saleswoman. In her free time she pursued sewing
as a hobby and was a frequent guest at the Elks Lodge, where
she and Max were renowned for their love of dancing.
She was admired by all who knew her and will be greatly missed
by her family and friends. She will be remembered above all
as a devoted wife to her husband Max as well as being hard working,
honest, gracious and outgoing, and as a warm and caring mother
and grandmother.
Mildred Pappe is survived by her three children and their spouses,
Donald and Judy Pappe of Whittier Calif., Marilyn Davis of Cathedral
City Calif., and Elaine and Robert Lawson of Laguna Beach, Calif.;
five grandchildren, Kimberly Cheney, Robert Willis, Angela and
Jessica Lawson; and five great grandchildren; two brothers,
Cletus Wittrock of Okarche Okla., Carl Wittrock of Bethany OK;
one sister, Rita Forman of Kingfisher Okla., and numerous nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted
husband of 58 years; three brothers, Lawrence and Herbert Wittrock
of Okarche Okla., and Louis Wittrock of Carroll, Iowa.
The family requests that Mildred Pappe be remembered by making
a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her name. Donations

Larry Francis Wittrock (1961-2005)

Larry Francis Wittrock was born on March 13, 1961 in Roswell,
New Mexico and passed away on August 3, 2005 in Modesto, California
at the age of 44. Mr. Wittrock has been a resident of Modesto
for many years. He worked as the office manager for CTECH Photonics
for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberley Wittrock of Modesto;
parents, Ralph and Claudia Wittrock of Merced; daughter, Jennifer
Wittrock of Modesto; brothers, John Wittrock of Orlando, Florida
and Jim Wittrock of Folsom California; and nephews, Tommy, Joshua,
Jordan, Jacob and Zachary.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005 from 2:00
p.m. 7:00 p.m. at Strafford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Funeral
services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m.
at Stratford Evans Merced Funeral Home. Burial will follow at
Merced District Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stratford Evans Merced
Funeral Home.

Joseph Arkfeld (1884-1967)

Joseph Arkfeld was born April 15, 1884, at Earling
IA, the son of Catherine and Henry Arkfeld.
He married Theresa Siemer [daughter of Maria Sophia "Theresa"
(Wittrock) Siemer] of Templeton, Ia. To this union four children
were born. They are Anthony H. Arkfeld of Defiance, Angeline,
now Mrs. Gerald C. Anastasi of Hawthorne, Calif., Clarence J.
Of Defiance and Leona, now Mrs. Warren Kohl of Defiance.
He died April 14, 1967, at Myrtue hospital at Harlan, Ia.,
after a lingering illness at the age of 82 years, 11 months
and 29 days.
Mr. Arkfeld was a retired farmer. He was affiliated with St.
Peter's church of Defiance, Ia., and a member of St. Peter's
Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus of Earling Council
No. 1741.
He is survived by his wife, four children, 25 grandchildren
and 28 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters--Mrs. Lena
Reding of Oklahoma City, Okla., George, John, Peter, and Ben
Arkfeld all of Panama, Mike Arkfeld of Sioux City and Mrs. Anna
Mages of Panama.
He is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers--Sr.
M. Magdalene, O.S.B., Mary, Frank, and Edwin.
Requiem High Mass was held April 17, 1967, at St. Peter's church
with The Rev. Gerald Deere, Celebrant.
Grandsons served as pallbearers; Alvin Kohl, Bruce Arkfeld,
Dennis Arkfeld, Ronald Arkfeld, Gerald Arkfeld and Kenneth Arkfeld.
Burial was in St. Peter's cemetery at Defiance, Ia.

Defiance—Theresa Mary
Arkfeld, daughter of Clemens and Theresa Wittrock
Siemers, was born Nov. 8, 1889 in Templeton, where she attended
school and grew to adulthood. She died at Myrtue hospital on
Jan. 30, 1974 at age 84 years, 2 months, 22 days. She was baptized
and confirmed at the Sacred Heart church in Templeton and she
has been a member of St. Peter's church in Defiance since moving
here. She was also a member of St. Peter's Altar Society. On
June 9, 1908 she married Joseph Arkfeld at St. Mary's church
in Panama. Five children were born to this union. After their
marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Arkfeld farmed near Panama for 10 years.
In 1920 they moved to the Defiance community where they farmed
until 1960. They then moved into Defiance and this has been
her home since that time.
Mrs. Arkfeld was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph,
on April 14, 1967; by an infant daughter, Marie; by her parents;
and by three sisters—Mrs. Bernadine Dopheide, Mrs. Elizabeth
Dorweiler and Antonia Siemers. She is survived by her two sons-Anthony
H. And Clarence Arkfeld, both of Defiance; by her two daughters—Angeline
(Mrs. Gerald C. Anastasi) of Hawthorne, Calif., and Leona (Mrs.
Warren Kohl) of Defiance; by 25 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren;
by one sister, Mary (Mrs. George Arkfeld) of Panama; by her
nieces and nephews and other relatives.
A concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on
Saturday, Feb. 2, 1974 at St. Peter's church in Defiance with
Rev. Vincent Ohlinger as celebrant and Rev. James A Freeman
as concelebrant.
Burial was in St. Peter's cemetery with Alvin Kohl, Allan Arkfeld,
Ronald Arkfeld, Gerald Arkfeld, Kenneth Arkfeld, and Robert
Arkfeld her grandsons, serving as pallbearers.
