Whittier Daily News, May 2005

Long-time Whittier resident, Judith A. Pappe, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on May 11, 2005 after a long and hard fought battle with ovarian cancer. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, daughter, family and friends. Judy will be fondly remembered by all who knew her and experienced her grace.

A second generation native Californian, Judy was born on August 17, 1946 in Sutter Hospital, Sacramento California. When Judy was six months old her family moved to Mount Shasta, California. After Don's discharge from the Air Force in 1967, Judy, Don and their baby daughter Deborah moved to Bellflower, California. In 1974, they moved into a new home in Whittier where they have resided since.

She loved tending her garden. One of Judy's favorite sayings was: "To Plant a Garden Is To Believe In Tomorrow". She knew the name of almost every plant under the sun. She especially loved the English-garden look so when she and Don remodeled their garden in 2002, she carefully designed one for their yard. She tenderly maintained her colorful displays of many varieties of roses, annuals, climbing vines, as well as her many different herbs and fruit trees. She also designed and planted many beautiful Fairy Gardens for her home and friends. She passed on the art of making Fairy Gardens to her daughter.
